What Is Web Hosting
As you consider setting up your first (or 101st) website, consider web hosting. The web hosting you use on your website defines the success of it. A web hosting review is often the best route to take to determine if you have the best hosting service, if you are paying too much for it and if you could get better service elsewhere. There are several options available to help virtually any size business find the type of hosting that is appropriate for their specific needs.
The first question is, what is web hosting? In short, this is a service provided to website owners. Each customer is given space on the company's computer servers. These servers are connected to the Internet. In order for any website to function, it needs to be on a server so that it can connect to the Internet. Servers themselves are very powerful computers and most are very large in size, in terms of their hard drivers. Most have more than one hard drive as well. The space on those hard drives is for rent, at a cost per month or year, to website owners who want to create a web presence on the web. The server you select plays a role in the functioning of the website. Each server is given a unique number, called an IP address, which stands for an Internet Protocol address. A good way to understand how the process works is to consider the local shopping mall. The building is one large unit, like the server. It has one address to it. The owner of the shopping mall fills up each compartment of space within the mall with shops, just like a website server owner will divvy up the space within it servers to provide each individual customers with their needed space. Each space, then, is also given a unique IP number, just like each store is given at a mall. The number is based on the unique address of the server, as well. Your website’s IP address will have a basis off your server's address. |
